About ISS

Inner Sunset Sundays: Reclaiming public space and building community

Inner Sunset Sundays (ISS) is a street event series started in 2010 that takes place several times a year on Irving Street (9-10th Avenues – map) in San Francisco’s Inner Sunset neighborhood.

The events were started in 2010 by neighbors and merchants who felt that our community needed a place in the heart of the neighborhood to gather and meet. ISS is more of a big block party than a street fair: We don’t want people to just buy something and move through; we want them to stick around, meet each other, and participate.

what Inner Sunset Sundays  is about

Telling stories
Telling stories is intimate and timeless, and perfect for sharing culture.
Dancing together
Dancing, singing, and other activities isn’t just for the pros. Everyone has a part to play.
Singing happy birthday
It’s wonderful to show community members we appreciate them.
Benches
If we stick around more, so does everyone else, and so we see the value of streets for gathering.
A mountain of boxes
Fun activities such as this one show that simple, cheap, creative ideas are sometimes the best ones.
Teamwork
The ISS team lives in the neighborhood. We do this because we love our community!
